Lime Blue in Charleston Offers Works by Lindsey Quay Sikes

Lime Blue, located in Charleston, SC, is presenting an exhibition entitled Render, featuring paintings, drawings, and fashions by Lindsey Quay Sikes. This show will open on Sept. 1 and will close on Sept. 31, 2007. This will be the first opportunity to view these wonderful works by Sikes about fashion as art.

In 2004, Sikes moved to Charleston to pursue a degree in Costume Design and Arts Management at the College of Charleston. She developed a love for fashion and design, and it is with her paintings that she finds a medium between art and fashion. The exhibition will feature costume renderings that will show fashion through the ages as well as high fashion. These wonderful pieces of artwork break through the everyday fashions that we see and show the spectacular presence of fashion in our daily lives. The exhibition will also feature pieces of clothing handmade by Sikes and expressionistic pastel portraits.

Art is all about how artists interpret the world and emotions. Fashion does the same thing. When a person chooses what to wear in the morning, they are interpreting how their clothing makes them feel. This exhibition will explore the "art" that we fail to see. Fashion is not hanging on a wall; it is on the people around us. That is what Sikes has captured in her art. As art has changed since ancient periods so has fashion, and it is important to realize how clothing is art through design and technique.

Sikes' exploration of fashion and art has led her to create many unique designs. Known for making wearable garments out of paper, she hopes to show more of her unique sense of fashion at the exhibition.
