WICKWIRE in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by B.J. Precourt and Amy Wald

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, will present an exhibit of carvings from twisted shapes and pieces of wood by B.J. Precourt and rustic furniture by Amy Wald, on view from Sept. 1 - 30, 2007. During the month, WICKWIRE fine art/folk art and Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, NC, will celebrate A MONTH for CERF to raise funds for CERF/Craft Emergency Relief Fund.

B.J. Precourt is a folk art carver/sculptor. He is not overly concerned with types or species of wood, all wood can be carved. He has never had instruction or taken advantage of classes. "Apprenticeship, marriage, house, and son and daughter consumed my first ten working years," says Precourt. "My vocation was that of a glazier - fabricating and installing glass. Then my wife and I decided to own our own glass shop, naming it after our first name initials, Bob and Julie. Moderately successful, we managed to rehabilitate three homes and incorporate an antique furniture restoration and refurbishing business over the next 25 years."

At age fifty, Precourt and his wife opted for a "new lifestyle" in North Carolina. Today, his inspiration for his works of art come from observing everything and adding imagination to create a story and then, he carves that story.

Amy Wald began creating rustic furniture in 1998 after searching for furnishings for her new log home in North Carolina. She experimented until she found the proper joinery and finishing techniques that would make her pieces last a lifetime (or longer). Wald creates unique, original, one-of-a-kind furniture (using antique and modern pieces) and accessories in the traditional Adirondack, rustic style, utilizing all natural materials such as birch bark, split twigs, pinecones, acorns, burls and whatever else Mother Nature provides locally if possible. Wald has shown in Pennsylvania and the Adirondack Mountains of New York.

During the month of Sept., WICKWIRE fine art/folk art and Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, NC, will celebrate A MONTH for CERF to raise funds for CERF/Craft Emergency Relief Fund. Each gallery will have 2 raffle drawings for chances to win American handmade crafts and other prizes. Tickets are $10. All money collected will go towards CERF's nationwide, nonprofit work for the careers of craft artists across the US.
