Lincoln Economic Development Association in Lincolnton , NC, Features Invitational Exhibit

The Lincoln Economic Development Association in Lincolnton , NC, is presenting the second rotation of the LEDA Art Invitational '08, featuring works by eight regional artists, on view through Oct. 31, 2008, in the (LEDA) Board Room Gallery.

The inaugural LEDA Art Invitational '08 is a well received collaborative effort between LEDA and eight invited regional artists who paint professionally. The purpose of the exhibitions is to showcase the cultural richness of Lincoln County to outside visitors as well as to local business, community, and civic leaders. Simultaneously, the artists receive additional exposure to potential corporate art buyers.

Artists who were invited to exhibit their original works of two-dimensional art for the 2008 year include: Karen Banker, Ginny H. Boyd, Lynn Dermott, Tom Owen, Dene Scott Smith, Zac Vinson, Kae Wright, and Beth Yarbrough. All artists selected have either lived and/or worked in Lincoln County and are professional artists. Mary Whisonant, art history professor, emerita, at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, is serving as the guest curator for the exhibit's second rotation.

"The Invitational has been well received. It is one of our top talking points when business and community leaders come to visit our facility" states Barry Matherly, Executive Director of LEDA, "By having a visual representation of the depth of talent we have in our region provides a strong means of letting business leaders considering relocation here know we have a great deal to offer."

Says Dene Scott Smith of Denver, NC , "The Invitational is providing me exposure to corporate art and licensing buyers that I wouldn't normally receive in a gallery. Plus, there's always the possibility people who see my work may want to purchase my art for their homes too. It's such a great opportunity."

States Karen Banker, organizer of the exhibit, "The response from the first rotation has been incredible. It's been wonderful to hear business leaders comment on the quality of the work and value of the exhibit. Many are pleasantly surprised by the depth of cultural richness Lincoln County has to offer and that awareness helps all of us, LEDA and the artists, to attract more business our way."
