City of North Charleston in North Charleston, SC, Features Works From Internal Sources

The City of North Charleston in North Charleston, SC, will be presenting, Works by North Charleston Cultural Arts Department Staff & North Charleston Arts Advisory Committee Members, on view in The Meeting Place Windows on East Montague Avenue in Olde North Charleston, from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, 2009. The exhibition will include works by 9 artists and crafts persons.

According the show's curator, Patricia Buckley, the aim of the exhibit is to introduce the public to some of the people working "behind the scenes" to lead, support, and coordinate arts and culture in North Charleston. Works included in the exhibition will feature a variety of subjects and mediums.

The North Charleston Cultural Arts Department was created by City Council in 1979 to plan for and support the arts and cultural activities throughout the community. The staff of the department works with the twenty-five member Arts Advisory Committee, which is composed of citizens from a cross-section of the community. Together they strive to provide programs and services that enhance the quality of life for North Charleston citizens and assist in the economic development of the City as a desirable place to live and visit.

The Meeting Place is located at 1077 East Montague Avenue in the revitalized Olde North Charleston Business District. Parking is free. Display window exhibits offer visitors a continuous opportunity to view artwork by different artists every other month.

The Cultural Arts Department is the recipient of the 2000 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for the Arts and receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, SC Arts Commission, and the corporate community.
