Asheville Quilt Guild Presents Annual Quilt Show - Sept. 27-29, 2013

The Asheville Quilt Guild will present the 31st Annual Asheville Quilt Show, on view at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher, NC, from Sept. 27-29, 2013.

“Quilting in the Carolinas” is this year’s theme, celebrating life in the Carolinas. This judged exhibition features more than 275 quilts from all over the country competing for over $8000 in prizes.

In addition to a wide array of quilts ranging from professional level to first timers, king-sized to miniatures, there will be more than 20 vendors selling quilting related products and gift items. The Guild sponsors a Gift Shop and Silent Auction as well as a used quilt and craft book sale. There is a special area of quilts for sale. Tickets are available to win the Opportunity quilt made by Asheville Quilt Guild members to support the mission of the Guild: To promote and preserve the art and history of quilts through education of its members, and to inspire community involvement. This year’s fundraiser quilt is called “Our Delectable Mountains.”

Demonstrations of quilting techniques by well known quilters in the region are ongoing throughout the show. Honored guest Mark Dunn, owner of United Notions and Moda Fabrics, will present a trunk show of his private quilt collection on both Friday (3pm) and Saturday (11:30am). Dunn, who once lived in Asheville, is the Show’s Platinum sponsor.

Also in the demo area, on Sunday at 1:30, Connie Brown, AQS Certified Appraiser of Quilted textiles, presents “Let’s Talk Quilts.” Attendees are encouraged to bring antique quilts and Brown will answer questions. (This will not be a full appraisal, and Brown will address as many quilts as time allows.)

Times for the show, at the WNC Ag Center Expo Building, Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9am-5pm, and 10am-4:30pm on Sunday. Admission is $6 per person. Lunch is available from Melt Your Heart. The Show is sponsored by the Asheville Quilt Guild and Moda Fabrics, Asheville Cotton and Quilting Treasures, among others.
