Recent Works by Donald Collins at The Gallery at Charleston Arts

The Gallery at Charleston Arts in Charleston, SC, is proud to present Studio/Words and Imagery a solo exhibition of recent works by artist, Donald Collins. The exhibit features mixed-media imagery described as expressionistic, figurative in nature and stream of consciousness inspired. The exhibit will continue through Nov. 19.

Collins was born in 1951 and raised in CA. Following the untimely death of his mother in 1971, he began his academic study of fine art under figurative surrealist Michael Barnes and painter Lynn Sheldon, a follower of Richard Diebenkorn.

From 1976 until 1982, Collins traveled extensively throughout the US, painting, drawing and photographing the urban/suburban landscape. Living in a Savannah, GA, garret, Collins painted a successful series of works, using odd 1950's postcards as his reference, now in private collections.

After the death of his father in 1995, Collins began a new series of painted meditations based on his father's life and death, continuing to work in journalistic postcard-sized landscapes and other imagery. Settling in Charleston in 1997, Collins continues to paint larger studio works, influenced by Milton Avery, Edward Rusha and Cy Twombly.

Collins' recent imagery is expressionistic, figurative in nature and stream of consciousness inspired.
