The Durham Arts Council will Feature the Photographic Works by York Wilson

The Luxury of Time: Southeast Asian Portraits is the title of an exhibit by Durham photographer York Wilson that will hang in the Allenton Gallery of the Durham Arts Council Building in Durham, NC, through Feb. 15.

This exhibit features images collected during the photographer's year long journey through Southeast Asia. With time being a critical factor in photography, the fact that Wilson was able to spend as much time as he wanted on any given subject helped him produce photographs that are very different from typical travel photography. "When you slow down, talk to people, and make photography subordinate to your interaction, the images change dramatically."

Wilson has been an avid photographer for 16 years. He has studied photography at four universities and participated in numerous workshops and conferences. For the last six years Wilson has worked as an independent commercial photographer for clients such as Kaiser Permanente, Sony, and Marcy Kates Communications. Before moving to Durham he and his wife lived in Oakland, CA. He currently holds the position of Artist Coordinator for Photography and Digital Arts at the Durham Arts Council. He lives in Durham with his wife, Elizabeth, and their beagle, Roodie.
