Photgraphic History of Railroad Presented at Gibbes Museum of Art

The exhibit, Trains that Passed in the Night: The Railroad Photographs of O. Winston Link, will open at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC, on July 13.

Originated by the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden with guest curator Thomas H. Garver, this exhibition features over 70 primarily black and white photographs that chronicle the history of the Norfolk and Western Railway in Virginia, West Virginia and part of North Carolina. The photographs of O. Winston Link are marvels of technique and innovation, capturing the images of the last steam engines of the century. The exhibition will continue through Sept. 19.

The Gibbes Museum of Art cultivates the arts and art education through collecting, displaying and interpreting works of art. Other exhibitions include: An Inside Look: Conserving Miniature Portraits, which runs through Oct. 10, featuring contextual and photo panels that illustrate how miniatures were used as jewelry in the 18th and 19th centuries and Charleston Connections: 1670 - 1865, a selection of portraits, landscapes and sculpture from the Gibbes' permanent collection, which continues through Aug. 1.
