Winthrop University Presents Annual Faculty Exhibition

The annual exhibition featuring works from Winthrop's Department of Art and Design Faculty opened in the Rutledge Gallery on the campus of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. The exhibit will continue through Dec. 15, 1999. This exhibition will include works from a wide range of disciplines including painting, sculpture, ceramics, metals, photography, drawing, graphic design, printmaking, and interior design.

This year the exhibition will feature work by one of Winthrop's new Art and Design professors, sculptor Shaun Cassidy. Formerly of England, Cassidy was an assistant professor at the Kansas City Art Institute, and served on the faculty at Bennington College, VT, prior to joining the faculty at Winthrop University. Cassidy says that his works "are large scale constructions that mime and mine the territory established between stage and audience, an awkward relationship when the proscenium is unpopulated. The work assumes the roles of stage (an actual configuration), actor (an implied) and story (an inferred narrative), requiring the viewer to complete the narrative and identify the metaphor according to his or her disposition and experience."

The annual Off The Wall Sale, featuring works by students and faculty will also take place Dec. 15, starting at 7pm.
