Two Person Exhibit on View at Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC
Artworks Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, is presenting a two-person exhibit of landscape watercolors by Carl Gericke, and pastel landscapes by Elsie Dinsmore Popkin from Oct. 10 - Nov. 18.
Carl Gericke is showing watercolors he has done on site at the NC and SC coasts, as well as locally. Gericke graduated from Parsons School of Design and worked in advertising art for 35 years in New York City. He also attended the Art Students League in NYC.
Elsie Popkin is showing several series of pastel paintings. One series is of her garden in the backyard, including a winter group done looking out her window, with blue Adirondack chairs in each painting. The other series are from trips to Alaska and Spain. Popkin always creates her pastel pieces on site. She has been a Fellow at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY. In addition, Popkin has been artist-in-residence for several summers at the Shoals Marine Laboratories on Appledore Island, Maine, where Childe Hassam painted 100 years ago. Popkin shows at the Uptown Gallery in NYC, and is in many regional and national collections.
