Red Door Art Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Laszlo Hamori
The Red Door Art Gallery of Hendersonville, NC, has chosen painter Laszlo Hamori to be the featured Gallery Artist for the month of Oct. Hamori's large abstract oil paintings are on exhibit in the gallery studio.
Hamori states, "Abstract art is the only true art. It is inspired from within. Abstractness stimulates the mind and soul...connects us to an ethereal world, one without rules and full of pure imagination." Of his own drive to create art, Hamori says, "Painting is for me an emotional experience. Intuition drives me. The motion of the brush leads me to discover secrets hidden deep in the canvas. It is almost as if the canvas tells me what it wants to become." In his compelling work, Hamori incorporates organic shapes with surreal, stark backgrounds. His skillful, energetic brushstrokes animate and induce restless motion and daring tension between the illusive forms and shapes. His paintings speak in a language of vibrant colors and integrated contrasts, revealing the light and dark aspects of the human experience.
In a large work, entitled Woman on the Beach, a distorted human form writhes under the sun. Clothed in hot reds, pinks, blues and yellows, she exudes an impudent self-awareness in her abandonment and longing. A strongly contrasting mood is established in the large primitive work, Blind Man with a Harp. Painting on a black canvas adorned with twisting vines, Hamori's subdued tones convey mystery, as an isolated figure strums a mournful melody, communicating a message of despair and grief. Madonna with Child reveals the influence of religious iconography. Boldly rendered in impasto brushstrokes of blood red and black, two figures emerge, carved into the thick surface in a delicate line-drawing.
Hamori was born in Budapest, Hungary and managed to escape the communist-ruled country with great difficulty in 1980. He lived in Canada for 19 years, moving with his family to Hendersonville in 1999. Hamori's works have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the US, Canada and Hungary, and are represented in numerous public and private collections.
