Works by Howell Boyd on Exhibit at Tryon Fine Arts Center
Tryon Painters and Sculptors in Tryon, NC, will host an exhibit by Brevard, NC, artist Howell Boyd through Oct. 12 in Gallery One.
After a 35-year marketing career, first with the Fortune 500 Warner-Lambert Company, and ultimately as head of Howell Boyd Advertising, Inc., in San Antonio, TX, Boyd now devotes himself full-time to art.
Boyd studied painting drawing and painting at the University of Nebraska and at the University of Mississippi. He earned a baccalaureate degree from Old Miss, which awarded him a fellowship for graduate study.
An avid painter since high-school, Boyd combined vocation and avocation to create and teach "Marketing for Artist" as part of the fine arts curriculum of the San Antonio Art Institute, where he also served on the board.
In recent years, Boyd has worked almost exclusively in acrylics. "My overriding objective is to delight the eye. Pierre Bonnard, a true master of retinal enchantment, has strongly influenced my mature work. In addition, I try to optimize the power of each painting by imaginative design of the space," says Boyd.
Boyd's work can be seen at the Asheville Gallery of Art. His work has also been exhibited at the University of Nebraska, the University of Mississippi, Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, Forum Gallery, New York City, Laguna Gloria Art Museum, Austin, TX, the San Antonio Art Institute, and elsewhere. In annual exhibitions sponsored by the San Antonio Business Committee for the Arts his paintings were named "Best of Show" in the painting category three years in a row.
