Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, to Showcase Burdé Collection of African Art
The Burdé-Monroe collection of African Art will be displayed at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, through Oct. 12, in the College's A.J. Eastwood Library Art Gallery.
Virginians Dr. Roger de la Burdé and Beverly Monroe developed the collection of African art. A number of fine pieces, particularly works of Nigerian art, are included in the collection.
A native of Poland, de la Burdé, along with his father, began collecting African art. He had made donations of both African and contemporary art to various colleges and universities. Monroe is a graduate of Limestone College. She began working with Burdé in the late 1970s.
