Merrill-Jennings Galleries in Davidson, NC, Features Exhibit on American Impressionism
Merrill-Jennings Galleries in Davidson, NC, is featuring American Impressionism, on view until Nov. 28, 2002. The exhibit features contemporary interpretations of the style begun by French painters in the 1860's, a style obsessed with the brilliance and vibrancy of natural light. Over the past 150 years Impressionism has influenced painters around the world, so much so that the term has been used to describe almost any style that is looser than realism and deals with faceted light and color.

Impressionist movements have flourished in the United States, waxing, waning, and persisting to the present day. The show at Merrill-Jennings explores the style in 2002, offering internationally renowned American exhibitors including: Ming Feng, Don Hatfield, Charles Knecht, Henri Plisson, Bill Schmidt, and Christian Title. Regional exhibitors include Jim Chapman, from Charlotte, NC, as well as Jodi John and Amy Queen, both of Statesville, NC.
As a special feature, works by Charles Parthesius, widely considered the Master enamellist of the Twentieth Century, will be exhibited. The Impressionistic enamels are kiln-fired silica on copper and were provided to the show from the A.M. Williams collection.
