Charleston, SC, Welcomes Art Lovers for a Fine Art Weekend Affair
Art enthusiasts and avid collectors from across
the United States will flock to the historic city of Charleston,
SC, for the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association's (CFADA)
Sixth Annual Fine Art Annual. Guests will have the opportunity
to mingle with some of the nation's most renowned artists, visit
10 of the city's recognized art galleries, meet the people behind
Charleston's art world, and purchase pieces created by artists
in celebration of the weekend art affair. The festivities run
from Nov. 5 - 7, 2004.
The Fine Art Annual weekend officially begins Nov. 5, with gallery
openings in the historic district. Guests will enjoy an intimate
evening at all 10 CFADA member galleries, which will showcase
the works of visiting and local artists. Gallery openings begin
at 5:30pm. Admission is free to the public.
CFADA member galleries include: Ann Long Fine
Art, Bernie Horton Gallery, Carolina Galleries, Charleston Renaissance
Gallery, Coleman Fine Art, Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery,
Margatet Petterson Gallery, Smith-Killian Fine Art, The Sylvan
Gallery, and The Wells Gallery.
Saturday morning offers visitors and residents an intimate look
inside the artists' minds at the ever-popular "Painting in
the Park" in Washington Park, located at the corner of Meeting
Street and Broad Street. Beginning at 9am, featuring 20 artists,
including the weekend's featured artists. Visitors can stroll
through the park, and observe the artists deep in their artistic
modes, creating masterpieces of the Southern city. Breakfast treats
will be served. Admission is free.
Following morning's "Painting in the Park," guests are
invited to the weekend's most anticipated event, the Patron's
Gala Reception at the Harbour Club, located on 35 Prioleau Street
in downtown Charleston. Guests will enjoy a taste of Charleston,
enjoy drinks from the open bar and partake in the evening's silent
auction, where 20 paintings from the morning's "Painting
in the Park" will be up for bid. Proceeds from the silent
auction will benefit local public schools' art programs. The reception
begins at 6pm. Cost is $50 per person in advance or $60 per person
at the door.
The finale of Fine Art Annual ends on Sunday with a delicious
brunch at High Cotton on 199 East Bay Street, one of the city's
most prestigious restaurants. Guests will enjoy a two-course brunch
and a special presentation by Art & Antique's editor,
Barbara Tapp. The brunch is the perfect time for both avid and
amateur art collectors to learn more about The Art of Collecting,
as well as the ever-changing art world and Charleston's role within
it. Brunch begins at 10am. Cost is $25. per person.
In 2003, CFADA raised $27,000 with proceeds from the gala's silent
auction benefiting the Gibbes Museum of Art's contemporary collection.

The Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association was founded in 1999.
