October Issue 2004
Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Karen Hewitt Hagan and Ella Richardson
Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery in
Charleston, SC, proudly announces, A Moment in Time, a
new exhibit of oil paintings and photography by Charleston artists
Karen Hewitt Hagan and Ella Richardson. The exhibit will be on
view from Oct. 1 through Nov. 1, 2004.
This show of new works will present both Hagan and Richardson's
captivating images of the North American coast, along with such
distant locales as Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. One of the
shared commonalities in Hagan and Richardson's artistic partnership
is their passion for experiencing new cultures and places. Among
Hagan's newest oil paintings will be her perspective of locales
from the Bahamas to the eastern shore of Virginia. Equally compelling
will be the photographs of Richardson's visual discoveries in
Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and coastal North America. Evident
in each painting and photograph will be the ethereal sensibility
of one's own lifelong voyage.
Karen Hewitt
Hagan
Hagan, a founding member of the Southeast Plein
Air Painters, has been capturing the impressionistic glow of her
surroundings for years. With her newly outfitted yacht, she has
turned her artistry towards the entire southeastern coastline.
Hagan has studied and received critique from such nationally acclaimed
artists as Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Gay Faulkenberry, Joseph
Mendez, Charles Sovek, and George Strickland. Hagan has also recently
participated in the Carmel Art Association's Plein Air Painting
Competition and The Best and the Brightest Show in
Scottsdale, AZ.
Ella Richardson
Richardson found her passion for photography
at the age of five, when she first laid her hands on a camera.
Although she has been exploring her visual artistry through photography
for many, as well as sharing her work with friends and patrons,
surprisingly A Moment in Time is her first show of photography.
Paired with Richardson's devotion to the camera, is her intuitive
drive to travel. Looking back at her many destinations across
the globe, Richardson reflects, "I have been very blessed
with opportunities that made it possible for me to truly see places
I had always dreamed of visiting as a child. I remember sensing
the scent and the atmosphere of Africa before I even set foot
on the continent. Experiencing Africa through the lens of my camera
is one of the greatest memories of my life." Richardson is
gifted at seizing the fleeting atmosphere of her surroundings
through her photography.
