Gallery 9 Near Banner Elk, NC, Features Works by Diane La Rose
The formidable oils of Asheville, NC, artist,
Diane La Rose, will be featured in a show entitled, Tapestries
of the Soul, at Gallery 9 near Banner Elk, NC, from Oct. 9
through Nov. 11, 2004.
Like falling down a rabbit hole into a mythic land with characters
known as the Tibetan, the Warrior, Lily, and the Jester, the effect
of a La Rose oil painting is at once mysterious and mesmerizing.
La Rose, a connoisseur of exotic fabric, cloaks her figures in
richly detailed garb placing them in ethereal environments where
dreamlike elements are reminiscent of a Tarot card spread. Often
holding clues to the quest, and never quite grounded, her heroes
possess a radiant stillness as coins and baskets, keyboards, and
fruit emerge from diaphanous layers like pieces of a puzzle.
A La Rose canvas resonates with richly appointed color and eloquent detail, the end result; an epic masterpiece of life size proportion. Never divulging the secrets of her characters, La Rose, the spirit guide, leaves her tapestries of the soul for the viewer to divine.
La Rose, who graduated from Wayne State University
with a BFA in painting, worked professionally as an art director
and illustrator, and later lived with her husband for several
years on board a sailboat. A collector of fabrics from around
the world, her interests also include scuba diving, dressage,
and growing gourmet herbs.
