Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Exhibition to Celebrate and Benefit Penland School of Craft
Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is
pleased to present the exhibit, Gather 'Round the Table,
to benefit and celebrate Penland's history and impact upon the
crafts' community. The exhibition will be on view through Oct.
30, 2004. A fundraiser honoring Penland School of Crafts' 75th
Anniversary, the exhibit includes works by over 50 artists from
around the country. A portion of sale proceeds will benefit the
Preserve Penland Campaign, to be matched by an anonymous donor.
The funds will help renovate historic buildings, build new artist
studios and student housing, and expand scholarship opportunities
at Penland.
Dorothy Hodges, of Hodges Taylor Gallery, says of hosting the
exhibit, "We believe so firmly in the school's influence
in the world of crafts, and the economic development it brings
to the state of North Carolina."
As the title suggests, Gather 'Round the Table, will present
hand-crafted objects associated with food and drink, such as platters,
place settings, tea sets, pitchers, goblets, centerpieces and
candlesticks. Participating artists are either former students
or instructors at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.
Artists include Stanley Andersen, Cynthia Bringle, Fred Fenster,
Suze Lindsay, Jane Peiser, Rudy Rudisill, Randy Shull, Liz Sparks,
and Bob Trotman.
Many of the artists featured in this show are
also included in the exhibit at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design,
The Nature of Craft and the Penland Experience, on view
through Jan. 30, 2005.
