October Issue 2004
Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Peter Milton and Susan Harbage Page
Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, continues
its solo print and photography exhibits with Peter Milton's, Points
of Departure Series, and Susan Harbage Page's, Involuntary
Memory Series.
The Milton prints are currently on exhibit and Page's photographic
exhibit opens Oct. 1 and continues through Oct. 31, 2004.
Internationally recognized artist Peter Milton
is introducing his newest print, Hidden Cities II: Embarkation
for Cythera, in this show. A true renaissance man, Milton
draws upon his vast knowledge of ancient architecture, culture,
mythology, engineering, literature and history.
For instance, the featured print was inspired by two European
cityscapes. Milton masterfully combines the steps from Montmartre
in Paris and the Spanish Steps in Rome into one imaginary cityscape.
There are also multiple layers in Milton's work that beckons the
viewer to keep looking.
Susan Harbage Page
Also on display are photographs by Chapel Hill, NC, photographer, Susan Harbage Page. Page developed this body of work while in residence at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France. Most of the images were taken in Southern France or Northern Italy in the spring of 2002. These photographs represent Page's fascination with the concept that a taste, smell, or small bit of visual information can bring back memories of childhood or memories of being in a specific place at a specific time, based on Walter Benjamin's writings about "Involuntary Memory."
An innovator with different photographic methods,
Page prints images in warm sepia-tones and distressed negatives
to represent a certain mood, time or place.
