October Issue 2004
Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Andrew Wyeth
Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is excited to announce a solo exhibition of available watercolors by the world-renowned artist Andrew Wyeth. On view from Oct. 23 through Nov. 27, 2004, the exhibition entitled, America's Painter, coincides with the greatly anticipated traveling exhibition, Andrew Wyeth: The Helga Pictures, showing at the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte. This is the first North American gallery exhibition of works by Wyeth in five years.
Often acclaimed as "America's Painter", Wyeth (b. 1917) is one of the most well-known and influential artists in the history of American art. He is revered for his watercolor and tempera paintings of people and places in and around his homes in Chadds Ford, PA, and Cushing, ME, where he continues to live and work to this day.
Wyeth has been honored innumerable times during
his career as an artist. In 1940 when Wyeth was elected to the
American Watercolor Society, he became the youngest member in
the organization's history. And, so he was again, when in 1950
he was elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letters.
Among his many museum exhibitions, Wyeth was the first living
American artist to receive a retrospective at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. He has also had record-setting retrospectives at
the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Whitney Museum
of American Art and the Institute of Chicago, among others.
On view at Jerald Melberg Gallery will be approximately ten watercolors
of various sizes and subjects, including landscapes and still
lifes, spanning over twenty years. All works in the exhibition
will be available for purchase.
