October Issue 2004
Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Luke Allsbrook
The exhibition, Beyond Time and Place, featuring new oil paintings by acclaimed artist, Luke Allsbrook will be on view from Oct. 1 - 31, 2004, at Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC.
Allsbrook earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University in 1994. Winner of two prestigious scholarships, The Posey Foundation Scholarship and the Highest New York Academy of Figurative Art Scholarship for two consecutive years, 1995 and 1996, he graduated cum laude with a Masters Degree in Fine Art from The Graduate School of Figurative Art, New York Academy of Art.
This one-man show celebrates the meaning of
people, place, and the ordinary, yet meaningful, moments in life
marking the passage of time. Allsbrook combines exquisite technique
and attention to the finest detail with a visionary approach to
nature, allowing him to create landscape and figurative paintings
that transcend time and place. The quality and imagery found in
Allsbrook's works are aptly described by Critic and Professor
of the Arts, James A. Herbert, who in comparing Allsbrook to Lucien
Freud, dubbed Allsbrook a "painter's painter", an artist
who deftly captures the elements of realism and atmosphere in
his compositions. His ability to seamlessly combine strong compositions
with his own, unique artistic vision, give his paintings a fresh,
inimitable style.
An artist possessed of many gifts, Allsbrook's greatest gift lies
in his ability to include the viewer, through his use of strong
line, color and perspective, he invites the viewer into his world;
making them an active participant in the scenes and activities
he brings to life. Images of intimate family moments on a beach,
a lone elm tree in an open field, an old logging road, all of
these subjects come together as a personal, pictorial journal
Allsbrook shares with the observer.
The recipient of numerous awards and honors, his paintings can
be found in many public and private collections, including the
Forbes Collection and the Collection of His Royal Highness, The
Prince of Wales.
