Smith Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Kim English
Smith-Killian Fine Art in Charleston, SC, is honored to announce the third solo exhibit, Kim English-New Works in Oil, featuring works by nationally renowned artist, Kim English. An undeniable force in the contemporary plein air movement, this sensational talent will be providing his admirers with a collection of fresh and inspired new pieces. The exhibit opens on Nov. 5 and continues through Nov. 19, 2004.
When first viewing a piece from English, the
appeal is immediate. Known for his mastery of chiaroscuro, each
piece speaks to the true focus of English's inspiration of light
and shadow. His subject matters, which range from street side
fruit stands in Mexico to a bride feeling the warmth of the sun
pour in through a window; they are about moods created. The viewer
is introduced to his work through charming scenarios that are
wrapped in depth, texture, and entirely about paint.
The primary force of English's paintings is his astonishing manipulation
of his medium. It is a humbling experience for anyone to watch
the artist create in the alla prima method that helps define his
style, "immediacy is important, it's the most instinctive
way to paint", says the artist.
After his first two sold out shows in Charleston, this collection
is an attestation of his deserved enamored following. English
was born in 1957 in Omaha, NE, and raised in a rural community
near Colorado Springs. After graduation from the Rocky Mountain
School of Art he joined the faculty and later began teaching at
the Art Students League of Denver and the Scottsdale Artists School.
English has exhibited at the Allied Artists of America winning
the Gold Medal of Honor; the National Academy of Design; the Artists
of America-Denver Rotary Club; NAWA 21st Annual Exhibition; Arts
for the Parks; the Colorado Governor's Invitational - Loveland
Museum; the A.R. Mitchell Memorial Museum of Western Art; The
Knickerbocker 42nd Annual Exhibition; the Oil Painters of America;
and won both the Certificate of Merit and the Joseph Hartley Memorial
Award at two Salmagundi Club Exhibitions.
