October Issue 2004

The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Gary Gowans and Claire Farrell

The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, is proud to present new work in oil by artists Gary Gowans and Claire Farrell. The exhibition opens on Oct. 1 and continues through Oct. 15, 2004.

Gowans, an internationally accomplished illustrator, uses his graphic eye to depict fine detail on canvas. The realism in his architectural scenes are so rich; it feels as if you are participating in the street's happenings. It is his attention to these details and his interest in light and shadow that makes his work recognizable. Whatever the subject, Gowans' works represent his unique ability to place the viewer among the setting.

After living in Charleston for fifteen years, Gowans currently resides in New Bern, NC.

Claire Farrell, a local painter, is inspired by the ever changing sky over the Carolina coast. This new body of work includes 19 works in oil. Subject matter ranges from local Charleston gates to children enjoying the sandy beaches. Farrell's canvases hold the viewer's eye, with a soft palette and a strong sense of composition.
