Frame Shop and Gallery at Pat-a-Cakes Bakery in Rock Hill, SC, Features Works by Anne Rhodes
Anne Rhodes, an artist now living in Fort Mill, SC, has launched a self-discovery tour through her art by challenging herself with a variety of mediums and subjects. Her artistic style is basically traditional realism, but she enjoys detouring into other styles and venturing into a variety of techniques and mediums. Watercolors are a favorite medium, as are pastels. A collection of selected works can be seen through Oct. 31, 2005, at the Art Cafe, which is part of the Frame Shop and Gallery at Pat-a-Cakes Bakery in Rock Hill, SC.
Rhodes has now made her art a full time career endeavor, researching to find her niche in the artistic arena, to focus on the medium or subject matter where she feels she excels, or where she can best offer her creativity. "The problem," Rhodes states, "is that I really want to do all of it. Part of the discovery is expanding my knowledge, attempting the untried. I suppose if I have a forte, it is creating portraits. I truly enjoy the challenge of getting a genuine likeness, and incorporating the personality I discover in a subject."
Watercolors, pastels, oils, and acrylics take
on the beauty and fascination that Rhodes finds in nature, simple
household objects, or in life events. Every opportunity to photograph
objects, people, or places could result in a painting from the
experience. She is especially drawn to unusual lighting or luscious
colors found in nature. Unique compositions from household items
can be just as intriguing to paint. As long as variety abounds
and the opportunity presents itself, Rhodes will continue to explore
creatively. She continues to support and enhance the local art
community through her art classes in the various mediums to all
age groups, membership in various art associations and her exhibits.
Although Rhodes has worked diligently at developing her skills
as an artist, she fully recognizes the true source of her talents
and seeks daily to fulfill that purpose for which she has been
so graciously blessed.
