Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, Features Works by Jaime Owens and James Bailey
Photographs by Jaime Owens and digital media by James Bailey will be on display as part of Francis Marion University's Art Gallery Series, from Oct. 4 through Nov. 17, 2005. The exhibit will be on view in the Hyman Fine Arts Center Gallery at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.
Owens was born and raised in Florence and graduated from South Florence High School in 1993. He graduated from Francis Marion University in 1997 with a BA degree in studio arts.
"I moved to Los Angeles in 1999 to pursue some sort of career in photography or skateboarding, my other passion," Owens said. "I started interning at Skateboarder Magazine in 2000. During that time I started working on the MTV show Jackass as a camera man and later as an associate producer of the show. In Oct. 2000, I took the photo editor job at Skateboarder Magazine, my dream job. And last year I became the creative director here at the magazine." Owens lives in Dana Point, CA, with his wife. They are expecting their first child in December.
James Bailey's exhibit is titled, The Pixel Bound. A professor of art at the University of Montana, Bailey has served as chair for the school's Department of Art. His teaching emphases are in printmaking, painting and drawing. He also serves as director for the Matrix Press Visiting Artist program in printmaking.
"The Pixel Bound represents a continuing exploration of digital media and the book format as an artistic form of expression, as well as, the book as both a depository and relayer of information," said Bailey.
