Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Richard Stenhouse & Manuel Reyna

Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is resenting the exhibitions: Richard Stenhouse: My Carolina and Manuel Reyna: My Argentina, both on view through Nov. 5, 2005.

Richard Stenhouse

Jerald Melberg Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Charlotte native Richard Stenhouse. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Participating in more than sixty solo and group exhibitions, he has established a national reputation.

Using pastel and graphite on translucent mylar, Stenhouse creates haunting and compelling images, which are executed with extreme precision and remarkable draftsmanship. For three decades, he has been making drawings that evoke the soft luminescence that lies like a veil over the fields, forests and cities of the Carolinas. The resulting body of work possesses a certain psychological edge and mystery, regardless of subject.

Manuel Reyna

Jerald Melberg Gallery is also pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by acclaimed Argentine artist Manuel Reyna. Considering a national treasure in his homeland, Reyna was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1912, where he lived and worked until his death in 1989.

Trained as a brick mason and self-taught as an artist, Reyna was recently honored by the Museo Caraffa in Cordoba with a major career retrospective. This exhibition marks the first time Reyna's work has been shown in the US.

Reyna's paintings possess a sense of selflessness as he silently and openly shares his world, his Argentina with the viewer. There is a wonderful sense of solitude within these paintings, a harmony of nature and man communicated through a sensitive approach to color and impeccable attention to composition.
