October Issue 2005
Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Billy Dee Williams - the Painter
The artist turned actor; Billy Dee Williams will be showcasing his artwork from Oct. 8 through Nov. 2, 2005, at the Richard James Galleries in historic downtown Charleston, SC.
Williams grew up in Harlem with a family that encouraged his artistic abilities and fostered an enthusiasm for all forms of cultural expression. He began painting at an early age and won scholarships to the National Academy of Fine Arts and Design in New York. Ironically, it was the need to earn money to buy paints and canvas that brought Williams his extensive credits in both television and film. His paintings are now in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, and The Schomburg Museum in New York. Williams calls his paintings "abstract reality - sometimes I refer to them as impressions/expression - it's the best way I can explain them."
No matter how Williams views his work, the
Richard James Galleries is thrilled to have him showcase over
fifty originals during his exhibition. Williams will be on hand
during the public opening of the exhibit on Oct. 8.
