Side Street Gallery in Pittsboro, NC, Features Works by Ron Ridgeway
Ron Ridgeway, a self taught and highly regarded artist living in downtown Pittsboro, NC, has not publicly exhibited a body of work in the past 10 years. The absence of Ridgeway's work in a gallery has mainly been due to a lack of trust of the art scene, especially that between artist and gallery. Ridgeway lives down the street from Side Street Gallery in Pittsboro which opened in June of 2004. Over time he has built a relationship with the gallery's co-owner Michael Mosca a fellow artist.
The trust built between the two artists has allowed Ridgeway to rethink the possibility of putting himself out there once again before the art community and the public eye. Ridgeway is working on an installation which will be on display at Side Street Gallery from Oct. 14 through Nov. 6, 2005. The content of the installation will not be revealed until the exhibit opens, but will embody the artist's thoughts for the past 10 years.
Although Ridgeway has not wanted to exhibit in the past 10 years, he has continued during that time to put together an extensive body of work including paintings and sculptures. The artist has been described as an introvert and perfectionist by his closet friends, placing his artwork as the focus of his life. Ridgeway has been known to paint over a painting five or six times during the course of several years bringing his work up to date.
Ridgeway will often not leave his studio for days at a time, many times going without sleep. Michael Mosca states, "Ron is an artist in the truest form. The work which Ron will be presenting is the quality of a museum exhibit. This is art for the sake of art".
