The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Ted Ellis
The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, is pleased to feature the work of painter Ted Ellis as part of the seventh Charleston Fine Art Annual weekend. The exhibit opens on Nov. 4 and continues through Nov. 25, 2005. Ellis will be painting on location the next morning in downtown Charleston as part of the weekend events and present at the gala that evening where the paintings from the day's event will be available through an auction process with the proceeds going to Charleston area schools art programs.
Ellis calls being in Charleston especially as part of the Fine Art Annual "the ninth wonder of the world." He is thrilled to engage the collectors and public in the weekend of the receptions, painting in the park and a gala. As he sees it the celebration of the visual arts is the manifestation of the healing powers of art. He feels it is the right way to use art to create and then raise money for the benefit of others.
Ellis's accomplishments continue to grow. This New Orleans raised painter was recognized by Black Heritage Art, Inc. as artist of the year in 1997. He was the Heritage Arts Festival's 2002 winner of the Palette Award For Impressionism and this year was named the National African American Chamber of Commerce's entrepreneur of the year. He was also accepted into the Amistad Research Center at Tulane which means papers will be maintained documenting his career path.
Ellis continues to be excited about his work and the challenge of telling stories through his paintings. His work is attached to his persona experiences. Ellis carries several themes in his work- jazz, religion and fishermen. The jazz works tend towards a more impressionistic style. His texture paintings are done on top of palettes so that the texture is arbitrary. Ellis likes this approach and it fits his environmentalist consciousness as he is recycling!
Ellis, who currently resides in Friendswood, TX, has work in corporate collections including Walt Disney Studios, Coca Cola, Avon and Philip Morris. He is working on a book of his imagery including input from the collectors on how they react to and embrace the work.
