October Issue 2005

Vadim Bora Gallery & Studio in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Marie Colton Pelzer

Vadim Bora Gallery & Studio in Asheville, NC welcomes Charleston, SC, photographer Marie Colton Pelzer. In the exhibition, Ulterior, Pelzer examines nature (exterior) and still life (interior)  in a  photographic essay, inspired by the age-old tension between illusion and reality, truth, surface, and beauty. The exhibit will be on view from Oct. 7 - 30, 2005.

Pelzer, originally from Asheville, but who has spent 30 years in Charleston, captures nature, city scenes, and still lifes with a fresh eye, natural light, and a manual manipulation or two when the spirit moves her.

Pelzer's close-up portraits of every day objects, placed in strange relation to one another - a lure on a delft plate, a shell on iluminated fiber glass insulation, a rough nest on a silk scarf - are as intriguing as her sepia-tinted landscapes are beautiful.

Ulterior blends innovative art photography with documentary-like historical pictorials of places familar and not.
