October Issue 2005

Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Gary Gowans and Kate Long

Interpretations, an exhibit highlighting the latest works of Gary Gowans and Kate Long will open at the Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, on Oct. 7 and continue through Oct. 21, 2005.

This feature exhibit will contrast the remarkable realism of artistic veteran Gowans' with the fluid expressionism of emerging artist Long. Interpretations will celebrate this difference in style, inviting guests to enjoy the beauty of the Lowcountry, from marshscapes to sail boats, as seen through the eyes of two talented painters.

Long is a native of Greensboro, NC, and a graduate of The University of the South. Her paintings are soft, yet provocative. From a typical landscape to her signature ballerinas, Long evokes a sense of place and mood with ease. Her first feature exhibit, Interpretations should be a fine introduction to her latest works and a strong testament to her increasingly expressionistic style.

In addition to his painting, Gary Gowans is a renowned illustrator with credits as noteworthy as The Wall Street Journal. As a painter, Gowans brings the canvas to life through his acute attention to detail and strong command of light and shadow. Interpretations will include 14 new works in oil with subject matter ranging from Church Street as it may have appeared in 1901 to a boat which closely resembles The Spirit of South Carolina.

Interpretations is proudly presented by Kimberly Bokesch and Hume Killian.
