WICKWIRE Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers 6th Annual Juried Exhibition

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art ". . .where the heart finds art" and Carolina First Bank in Hendersonville, NC, are proud to present the Sixth Annual City of Four Seasons in Two-Dimensions juried exhibition and sale of two-dimensional art in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Henderson County Courthouse - the "people's house" on Main Street in Historic Downtown Hendersonville. The exibit opens on Oct. 7 and will continue through Dec. 4, 2005.

C. Allen Coleman, Executive Director Pickens County Museum of Art & History, Pickens County Cultural Commission, Pickens, SC, will judge the competition. Coleman is an artist, educator, advisor, curator, collector, administrator, seeker and visionary - a creative professional with a diverse background and experience in business and the arts.

Coleman is a native of Easley, SC. After completing degrees in Art & Art Education at Brevard College and Appalachian State University, he taught high school art for Calhoun County (SC) Public Schools. Eventually he relocated to New York City where he completed post-graduate work in fine art, taught, directed gallery exhibits, and served as a conservator and sales consultant at the Andre Emmerich Galley working with the best-known artists, collectors, museum administrators and art historians of the twentieth century.

After a decade in NYC, Coleman says "the lure of southern charm enticed him to Atlanta" where he did private consultation and pursued his own visions as a painter. Now in Pickens, Coleman has served the community as a past-chairman of the Professional Development Board of the South Carolina Federation of Museums and former chair for the task force to implement the Cultural Elements of Pickens County's Comprehensive Plan. In addition to the curation of over forty exhibitions, Coleman has administered nearly one hundred exhibitions and has been involved in the mounting of over five hundred exhibitions, performances and presentations.

Participating artists of the City of Four Seasons in Two Dimensions competition and exhibition will depict Henderson County landmarks. Artists' works may include oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, ink or mixed media. All works are original and reveal artists' perspectives - their views and visions of Henderson County landmarks.

"The event creates an opportunity for the community to reflect on the visual arts and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the people's house - the Henderson County Historic Courthouse," says gallery owner Shirley Palmer-Hill. "The 2005 celebration will remind us of yesterday - moments in history. Our history is what is so unique about this quaint yet cosmopolitan community."
