The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Offers Art Fakes
The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, is holding its popular Fabulous Fakes exhibition and sale on Oct. 28, 2006, from 10am-4pm. The marvelous interpretations of the artwork of the masters will be on display in the gallery and the courtyard outside the gallery in Pineland Station (suite 207).
Fabulous Fakes has become an annual event because of public demand. The event is so popular that those in the know come early in order to have their choice of favorite pieces.
What makes this event so special is that Art League artists not only replicate the works of artists like Monet, Cezanne, Vermeer, Picasso, Van Gogh and Lautrec, but they also add a number of their own touches. They may change medium, size or brush strokes. But, the most exciting thing about these artworks is that they often have an added humorous twist. For example, this year's Mona Lisa painted by Virginia MacKenzie bears a strange resemblance to a well known political figure. The title for this painting is Conda Lisa. Does that provide any hints?
David Musial did a take-off on Toulouse Lautrec's Divan Japonais, a stunning poster-like painting done in India ink and pastel. Check out the initial on the woman's dress (MC) and the title WHHI Goes to Moulin Rouge. I'm sure you've figured out by now who it is that Musial pictured in his work.
Fabulous Fakes is your opportunity to acquire a painting so like that of the great masters that your friends are sure to be impressed. The number of artists participating in this year's show has increased significantly. More than 55 artists have already completed their "Fakes," and some will be exhibiting more than one piece. Among the artists involved in this event are Barb Snow, DJ Murray, Joyce Nagel, Janice Nichol, Doris Shay, Bobsy Simes, Virginia Storin and Michelle Maffei. One of the art classes offered at the Art League Art Academy, taught by Ted Jordan, can teach you to "Paint like the Masters". If you like what you see at the show, then come to the Academy on Cordillo Parkway, take the course, and join in the fun of next year's exhibition and sale. All of the artwork is for sale.
Now, anyone can own the work of a great master as interpreted by a Hilton Head Art League artist. There will be refreshments and prizes and all of the art is for sale.
The Art League of Hilton Head promotes and supports the visual arts through education, exhibition and partnerships for the cultural enrichment of the community and its visitors.
