Arts United for Davidson County in Lexington, NC, Features Works by Students of Katherine Skipper
Arts United for Davidson County in Lexington, NC, will present an art exhibition by eleven artists who study art with Katherine Skipper. This group is known as the Perspective Artists. They meet every Wed. morning at the Lexington Recreation Center at the old Robbins School. In keeping with their first art show in 2005 entitled Perspective, they have titled this show, Another Perspective. The exhibit will be on view through Oct. 18, 2006. The artists are H. Wayne Dick, Carol Dunkley, Carolyn Henion, Melvena Holmes, Janet Isenhour, Meagan Jones, Page Onorato, Barbara Proctor, Peggy Styers, Carl Tuttle and Rossilea Wrenn.
The exhibition will include nearly 90 pieces of original artwork in a variety of media. Much of the work will be for sale; a portion of sales benefit Arts United programs. Sponsorship by BB & T ensures that the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
Katherine Skipper is an accomplished and highly respected artist and teacher in Davidson County and will have some of her own work on display and for sale as well. She was involved in the Lexington Artist Guild very early on. Mrs. Skipper operated her own art gallery in Lexington for several years and is a former Director of the Davidson County Museum of Art.
Erik Salzwedel, Exec. Director of Arts United said, "Katherine's style of teaching adult artists is to help them along in their own particular genre and medium. "She does not have, for instance, a 'watercolor class' or 'portrait class'; rather, she prefers to let the students choose their own subject matter and medium, helping them with materials and technique and guiding them through the process of creating the artwork." He continued, "In this way, each student is free to discover his or her own style."
