Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Robert Mahosky
The Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, is presenting an exhibition of works by Robert Mahosky, through Oct. 31, 2006.
Mahosky is a classically trained artist whose experiences in Rwanda as a news photographer have caused him to delve into the world of his subjects, moving from the traditions of oil to canvas. The soft smooth stroke turns angular, reflecting shattered lives and broken promises. Mahosky says of his experiences, "Camps filled with the orphans of war greeted my camera with smiles and curiosity. Their eyes tell the story, in life and in my paintings, if only the world would stop and look at them. Despite the horrors I still hear laughter, I reflect this in bright colors."
Most of the painting are done on paper or clayboard, allowing for the details. The color is layered with oil and glaze, bringing life to the near abstract.
