October Issue 2006
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Laura Lacambra Shubert
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, will present the
exhibit, The Good Life, featuring new oils and acrylics
on canvas by Laura Lacambra Shubert. The exhibition will be on
view from Oct. 13 through Nov. 11, 2006.
Shubert is nationally renowned for her bold, painterly depictions
of the figure, the still-life and intimate interior and exterior
scenes. The dramatic cropping of subjects and compositions
and heavy use of whites to bring out dramatic lighting are all
techniques that have set Shubert apart and made her work so desirable.
The daughter of a Basque father and American mother, Shubert was
born in Durham, NC, and grew up in Florida and Spain. She
chose art as a career at an early age and studied painting, drawing
and printmaking at Southern Methodist University, where she received
her BFA in 1986. After studying painting at Academie Port Royal,
in Paris, France for one year, Shubert returned to the United
States where she began exhibiting in solo and group shows across
the country. In 2000, she was named a fellow of the Royal Society
of Arts in London, England (established in 1754).
Shubert's work can be found in private and corporate collections
in the United States and abroad.
