Art Central Gallery in Summerville, SC, Celebrates 9 Years with 50 Year Retrospective for Lila Gray Cauthen
Art Central Gallery in Summerville, SC, will honor artist and charter member Lila Gray Cauthen in celebration of the gallery's 9th anniversary, with a 50 year retrospective exhibit. The exhibit opens on Oct. 11 and continues through Oct. 31, 2007.
The exhibit will include many paintings from her personal collection which have not been shown before. Cauthen is eighty-five years old and she has always been a creative member of the community from the 1963 opening of her gift shop in Cauthen's Hardware to now being a very active member of Art Central Gallery since its inception. Her need to express herself artistically has led to a wonderful appreciation of the beauty around her, and she translates this special view through watercolor, pastel, oils and acrylics.
The first painting Cauthen ever sold was one
of a sailboat she painted en plein air on East Bay Street in Charleston,
SC. A man walking by admired the work and immediately bought it,
as it was a beautiful image of his boat. With her continued love
of art and painting, Cauthen is a strong inspiration to her fellow
members of the gallery.
