Arts United of Davidson County in Lexington, NC, Offers Two New Exhibits
Arts United of Davidson County in Lexington, NC, is presenting two exhibits including works by Joanna Frazier Hudson, a traditional artist and photographer and works by The Davidson County Woodcarvers, both on view in the Arts United Gallery through Oct. 24, 2007.
Hudson's work ranges from still-life hand-tinted images to stone lighographs and a range of photographic methods. Her ability to bring imagery to poetry and poetry to images is her fore. From the whisper-thin strokes of her ethereal visitor "Ghost of Westover" to the utilitarian commonality of her hand-tinted fruits and vegetables photos, Hudson's work eloquently speaks volumes.
Hudson offers the following statement about her work, "I am a photographer. I make photographs and pictures that depict life cycles. The camera-eye makes images metaphorically mimicking personal experiences."
Born in High Point, NC, and currently living in Archdale, NC, Hudson received Fine Arts degrees from Virginia Commonwealth and UNC at Greensboro. She went on to teach film-making at UNCG and Wake Forest University.
On hand as well will be the Davidson County Woodcarvers displaying their work in the upstairs gallery during the same tenure. Come the 27th of Oct., the Woodcarvers will transform the entire Arts United Gallery into a showing of the Annual Woodcarvers Competition for viewing during the Barbecue Festival in Lexington.
Thanks to sponsor BB&T, the current exhibits and the Competition viewing are free to the public.
