Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Linda Carole Werthwein
During the October French Quarter Art Walk, on Oct. 5, 2007, Hamlet Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will feature the works of Linda Carole Werthwein in a garden exhibition.
For Werthwein, painting is a process rhythmic as dance, liberating form, color and light. Impressions are created by the natural flow of watermedia and continued with brush strokes both deliberate and spontaneous. Energy builds in color interactions and culminates in calligraphic line. Accents of irridescent carry the work beyond the realm of the natural.
Werthwein's use of dynamics in a semi abstract style invites the viewer to move within the painting, "ride with the wind." Strongly influenced by the Caribbean where she has lived and traveled extensively, her subject matter and use of color is a direct result of that experience. Subjects intertwine the heritage of Africa, the Caribbean and Charleston. Reflections of a love of dance, oceanic environments, wild horses, and character studies of the African based people interfuse a play of pure color, line, shape and texture. She works primarily with watermedia, some mixed media and oils that capture the essence of a subject.
From East Carolina University Werthwein received an MFA in painting and MAEd in Art Education. Her background is diverse in education and art. From preschoolers to professional artists she offers classes encouraging the gift within. International and regional collections and galleries feature her work. They are found in private, corporate, university, liturgical and medical spaces.
Werthwein is a natural plein-air painter living in Gloucester, NC, near to the sea.
