Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to be presenting the
exhibition, Into the Light: Sonia Handelman Meyer The
Photo League Years. The exhibition will be on view through
Oct. 26, 2007.
This exhibition introduces and celebrates Sonia Handelman Meyer's unique career in photography with images that have not been widely exhibited in almost sixty years. Now living in Charlotte, Meyer's active association with the New York City-based Photo League in the 1940s brought her into contact with influential photographers and the dominant social documentary movement. Images of street life, children playing, immigrants, minorities, and many other vibrant representatives of American diversity bring dignity and power to her subjects. Meyer's commitment to humanistic photography encourages us to contemplate our society as it was, and as it is today, through a lens of compassion and artistry.
In business since 1981, Hodges Taylor Gallery represents contemporary artists of the southeast, including painters, printmakers, photographers and sculptors. The gallery offers a public venue in uptown Charlotte for viewing artwork and serves as art consultants for individual and corporate collectors.
