October Issue 2007
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Dorothy Shoemaker and SOPHIA
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, presents Autumn's Bounty, an exhibition of new original oil paintings by Dorothy Shoemaker and SOPHIA. The exhibit will open on Oct. 5 and continues through Oct. 26, 2007.
Dorothy Shoemaker has traveled throughout the Carolinas and Virginia, studying the southern landscape along the way. Shoemaker often paints en plein air, attempting to capture a particular moment in the ever-evolving landscape. She also enjoys exploring the process of painting and how the skillful manipulation of the palette knife can build up the surface giving it added texture and definition.
SOPHIA has earned critical and popular acclaim for her abstract impressionistic paintings. A brilliant palette and wonderful brushwork are the tools she employs to bring out the excitement and energy she sees in the world around her. Her paintings evoke the Mediterranean culture and atmosphere, reflecting her own French and Greek origins. SOPHIA's vivid abstracted floral still life works have become a collectors' favorite. This exhibition will offer a variety of compositions including French landscapes, regional landscapes, cityscapes and still life works.
