Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Ford Smith and Jason Mernick

The Richard James Galleries in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibition of works by two contemporary artists, Ford Smith and Jason Mernick, on view from Oct. 1 - 31, 2007.

Ford Smith

Atlanta, GA, artist, Ford Smith, will be showcasing his newest original acrylic paintings on canvas, as well as debuting several eagerly anticipated limited editions.

When asked about the upcoming show Cristi Smith, owner and president of Ford Smith Fine Art said, "With its residents and visitors so accustomed to fine food, music, arts and scenery, Charleston is an ideal city to showcase Ford's radiant perspective on landscapes. Five years ago, the Richard James Galleries was one of the very first galleries to take a chance on Ford and exhibit his work, so this is a reunion of sorts. It's a very special evening."

Jason Mernick

The upcoming show marks another first for the gallery and Charleston, where metal works by Jason Mernick will be presented. Inspired by nature, Mernick has pioneered an exciting new art form, "Torch Painting". For centuries, heat has been used to extract metal from natural elements. Mernick uses heat to pull natural elements from the metal. With a torch, he can transform cold rigid steel, copper and aluminum into warm fluid forms - suns and ferns, trees and flowing geometric designs.

On Oct. 16, 2007, from 2-3pm, Ford Smith will perform a live painting demonstration. The event is free and open to the public. This event is the first time that Ford has agreed to paint in front of an audience. "My process is creatively intense and largely unplanned," Smith says, "which is why I've declined to do this in the past." This exciting demonstration will feature Ford's "Splash Painting" technique - kind of a controlled chaos and quite physical.

The Richard James Galleries located in historic downtown Charleston, has been serving the area for over seven years. The gallery carries a selection of works by regionally, nationally and internationally known artists. Buyers and browsers can explore a different world at every turn, in a comfortable, non-intimidating environment.
