UNC Asheville in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Eliza Hafer
UNC Asheville in Asheville, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Exploring the Mine, featuring the works of Eliza Hafer in the UNC Asheville Blowers Gallery on view from Oct. 1 - 30, 2007.
The color-saturated images of dreamscapes are
fertile ground for Asheville artist Eliza Hafer. Drawing upon
the ethereal qualities of these sleeping journeys, Hafer has created
a new exhibition featuring acrylic paintings and masks featuring
people and animals.
A native of New England, Hafer holds a bachelor's degree in art
from the University of California at Berkeley. She has held solo
exhibitions in North Carolina, Virginia and California and has
also exhibited paintings in a number of juried and group shows.
Hafer is a student of Jungian dream work and the use of art in
tribal healing rituals. She applies those studies to her paintings.
"In my work, I often overlay many thin layers of acrylics to create a luminous surface. I revel in lush color harmonies," said Hafer. "I'm fascinated by mixing realistic with abstract passages to create a lyrical kind of realism."
