Awards totaling $2,000 will be made by this year's juror, C. Allen Coleman. Coleman is the Executive Director of the Pickens County Museum of Art & History, Pickens County Cultural Commission and the Hogood Mill Historic Site & Folklife Center, all in Pickens County, SC. He is an experienced creative professional with a diverse background and experience in business and the arts. After completing undergraduate degrees in Art & Art Education at Brevard College and Appalachian State University, he taught High School art in the public school system and enrolled at New York University where he completed graduate and post-graduate work in fine art, was an instructor, and directed two-thirds of the university's exhibits programs. Coleman eventually left academia for the private sector of New York's international art scene and worked with best-known artists, collectors, museum administrators and art historians of the twentieth century. He later relocated to Atlanta where he spent several years consulting and doing reproductions marketing. Coleman now resides in the Upcountry of SC and in addition to the curation, mounting or administration of several hundred exhibitions, performances and presentations annually, Coleman continues to pursue his own interest in painting.

Roger Bansemer, 1st Place 2006

"The event creates an opportunity for the community to reflect on the visual arts and enjoy various interpretations by the artists of their emotions and/or of places which are relative to our theme - hearth & home. The idea of hearth & home is a typical part of our exceptional lives here in Western North Carolina," says gallery owner Shirley Palmer-Hill. "Good composition and design, effective use of color and textures centered on our 2007 Hearth & Home theme will be recognized. The exhibition will remind us of what brought us to this area and causes us to stay. Our environment is irreplaceable; it initiates sentiments and creates situations which are a part of the draw to this quaint yet cosmopolitan community nestled in the Blue Ridge of North Carolina."

Special recognition is given to Verna Shipman, event co-sponsor and owner/broker RE/MAX, who will present a $1000 Best of Show award. Shipman is a native of Hendersonville; past board member of DHI/Downtown Hendersonville, Inc; Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow; and Advocate for the arts. Her beliefs and vocation enable her to help others find their own livable center in our community, their own Hearth & Home.
