Edward Dare Gallery in Charleston,
SC, Features Works by Patricia Madison Lusk
Edward Dare Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Carolina on My Mind, featuring new works in oil by Charleston native Patricia Madison Lusk, on view from Oct. 3 through Dec. 31, 2008.
The rich, vibrant color in these new large scale oils of dramatic palmettos, sultry horizons and dreamlike images reflect Lusk's artistic journey - enhanced by living in the Caribbean, but always connected to the colorful images in her heart of the SC Low Country.
Lusk's work focuses heavily on light and the effect of light on color. She finds the excitement of opposites intriguing; the difference of textures, surfaces and edges give her inspiration for much of her work. When asked about this recent body of work, Lusk explains, "I have been fortunate to live in many beautiful places in Europe and the Caribbean, but no matter where I live, I am reminded that I will never become tired of painting this special, luminous place. There is absolutely nothing as hauntingly beautiful as the Low Country. It is magical and wondrous. I was born in this stunning part of the south and I will always love to paint its magnificent beauty."
Lusk began her career in theatre as a performer and ultimately a choreographer - at the same time she was painting and developing a very distinct style with her watercolors and oils. She received a BFA in painting from the University of South Carolina and did post graduate work at Furman University.
Lusk's work has appeared in numerous museums including the Headley-Whitney Museum, the Neville Museum, the Jacksonville Museum of Art and the Cummer Museum. Numerous one-woman exhibits, articles in US Art, Southern Living, Veranda, Southern Accents and American Artist as well as features in Wildlife Magazine, Coastal Living and HGTV are among her many accomplishments. Honors include being accepted in over 25 national juried exhibits with most including awards and traveling shows. She has work in many corporate collections in the United States including the permanent collection of Coca-Cola.
