G Frank Hart
Painter Rick McClure, a nationally known artist from Oklahoma City and award-winning plein air painter, has this time drawn his inspiration from the beautiful photographs of G. Frank Hart of Wilmington. Hart is a commercial photographer known in the area for his architectural and residential photography that has appeared in such publications as Southern Living and Period Homes magazines, Professional Builders, a trade publication and the New York Times.
Often when on location for a client, Hart sees the beauty of the Carolina's landscape, people and landmarks which he photographs simply to enjoy later. Painter McClure, as the starting point for his new exhibit, used a collection of Hart's images. Working together, they have produced a beautiful exhibit of oil paintings as well as sepia, black and white and color photography. The mix is interesting in concept, starting with the original photo and the interpretation of it by the painter. The gallery will also present several of Hart's photographs that were not used by McClure for the show.
Marshes and marinas are the subjects in McClure's
latest offering, things he knows well from his numerous visits
and workshops in the Wilmington area. He has been painting
professionally for more than 25 years. Throughout his career he
has enjoyed great success with a variety of media and executing
landscapes, cityscapes and large figurative work with an equal
degree of finesse. While doing work in the studio and outdoors,
he has found his true passion in working "en plein-aire",
a French phrase meaning painting outside in nature.
McClure's free, painterly approach to recording locations here
and abroad has made him popular with collectors and students nationwide. His
latest awards were Grand Prize and Best of Show from the Cincinnati
Art Club, the American Impressionist Society 5th National Exhibition,
2nd Prize from the American Impressionist Society 3rd National,
the Leila Gardin Sawyer Memorial Award from the Salmagundi Club
in New York and his work has purchased by Oklahoma city for their
permanent collection as well as numerous other corporate and private
collectors.
