October Issue 2008

Horton Hayes Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Shannon Runquist

Horton Hayes Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Relics, featuring new paintings by Shannon Runquist, on view from Oct. 2 - 23, 2008.

Runquist brings the past to the present in this series of still-life works spotlighting the form and function of antique objects of interest. She has carefully selected the items portrayed in these paintings for their intriguing shapes, colors, and textures. Runquist's classic sense of design is evident throughout this grouping and enables us to see these items for their inherent aesthetic qualities. Although many of the objects portrayed are now out of use, the relevance of their beauty and their place in memory endures.

Clustered montages rendered with a vibrant palette and energetic brush strokes are signature aspects of Runquist's work which has been described as "realism with abstract qualities". She has studied with several internationally notable artists and she is a member of the Oil Painters of America and The Charleston Outdoor Painters Association. Runquist was selected to participate in this year's non-member exhibition at the Salamagundi Club, Center for American Art, in New York City. Runquist is also the subject of a feature article in the October 2008 issue of American Art Collector magazine.
