McCarter Gallery in Hendersonville,
NC, Celebrates 5 Years with Exhibition
The McCarter Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, will be celebrating five years on Main Street with a special Anniversary Show from Oct. 10 through Nov. 20, 2008. The exhibition will feature new original acrylic paintings by well-known regional artist, Alan McCarter, who paints the beauty of Nature in the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains.
McCarter's style is soft idealized romantic realism with impressionistic elements. He uses acrylic to produce rich textured tapestries of water and foliage, refined by delicate touches of detail and glowing tints of repeated glazes of color. This gives a soft yet rich look to his favorite subjects - sparkling streams and waterfalls, misty mountain overlooks and colorful tapestries of wildflowers - the Appalachian landscape in all its natural glory.
McCarter was raised in the former home of the well known American impressionist Childe Hassam, in Easthampton, L.I., NY, a resort long know for the arts. He and his wife Robbin had their own galleries in Southern Pines, NC, and Ogunquit, ME, before founding the McCarter Gallery in Hendersonville. McCarter also displays his work at Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, SC, and at the Alta Vista Gallery in Valle Crucis, NC. He has a BS from Lowell University (MA) and a diploma from the Art Restoration Institute (NYC).
The McCarters began their current gallery in a small shop on Main Street in June 2003, where it was located for three years. There, many visitors and collectors enjoyed watching the artist paint at the front of the small shop. As business steadily increased, Alan and his wife Robbin, who is also an artist, soon needed more space. The gallery moved to a much larger shop in 2006 at the corner of Fifth and Main, where they now feature more of Alan's paintings as well as Robbin's, and both artists have studio space in back. Also displayed are limited edition custom giclees on canvas of their work, along with bird and wildlife sculpture by Gary Stevenson, hand-painted Russian nature ornaments by De Brekht Studios, art nouveau style glass vases and nature prints and cards from the McCarters' paintings.
The purpose of the gallery has always been inspirational - to uplift the viewer to a realm of beauty and goodness. In this show, McCarter seeks to reveal the divine in Nature in a glorified manner to be shared with all. The public is invited to this Anniversary Show, to share in the peaceful and uplifting vision of the paintings and enjoy the atmosphere of a sanctuary of Nature within.
