Upstairs Artspace in Tryon, NC, Offers
Works by Southern Exposure
The Upstairs Artspace in Tryon, NC, will present the exhibit, Southern Exposure Exposed, featuring works by members of the group Southern Exposure, on view from Oct. 10 through Nov. 15, 2008.
These talented, mid-career artists from the Upstate of South Carolina have been together 30 years - meeting to talk about art, giving each other support, and often exhibiting together. Participating artists are Carol Augthun, painting and mixed media, Jessica Barnes, painting, David Benson, mixed media (particularly chicken feathers), Amy Goldstein-Rice, ceramic sculpture, Claire Miller Hopkins, painting (pastel and oil), Linda Hudgins, painting, Cynthia Link, jewelry and ceramic art, Mark Olencki, photography, Sara Dame Setzer, painting and printmaking, Doris Turner, mixed media, Ann Wenz, textile art, David Zacharias, ceramic vessels.
Southern Exposure has planned, developed and implemented more than 30 exhibits for museums and galleries throughout the Southeast and in New York City. Some memorable exhibits have been The Horse Course, Art in a Box, The Art of Food, Red, The Home/The Homeless, and Black and White.
"Southern Exposure keeps us in touch with the local art scene and provides fellowship with other artists," says Linda Hudgins. "It also enables us to be in more shows than we could accomplish on our own."
The Upstairs puts on the 3rd Annual Silent Art Auction from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1, 2008, with bids closing at 5pm on the final day. This important fund-raiser for the nonprofit arts institution features wall-to-wall original art and craft at very affordable prices. Donations of art are being accepted through Oct. 18, 2008.
