WICKWIRE in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Annual Juried Exhibit

2007 winner - Janet Green Jacobson

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art ". . .where the heart finds art" in Hendersonville, NC, will present the 9th Annual City of Four Seasons in Two Dimensions Juried Art Exhibition and Sale titled Connemara Visions, on view from Oct. 3 - 31, 2008.

The exhibition includes original paintings which depict feelings and places regarding Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, NC. Awards will total $2,000. A special $1,000 Best of Show Award will be presented by the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara, Event Co-sponsor, as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of Connemara as a unit of the National Park Service. First, Second, Third Place, and two Honorable Mentions will share $1000 awarded by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary - 1998-2008.

"The event creates an opportunity for the community to reflect on the visual arts and enjoy various interpretations by the artists of their emotions and/or of places which are relative to our theme of Connemara visions," explains owner Shirley Palmer-Hill.
"This year, the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara, Event Co-sponsor celebrate the 40th anniversary of Connemara as a unit of the National Park Service. Their direct promotion of educational and interpretive activities of the national historic site and support of the National Park Service in its role to preserve Connemara, has inspired them to actively honor WICKWIRE's tribute art event. A visit to the National Historic Site is an illuminating experience and a typical part of our exceptional lives here in Western North Carolina. The exhibition will remind us of what brought the notable Carl Sandburg and his family, as well as, others and ourselves to this area and causes us to stay. Our environment is irreplaceable; it initiates sentiments and creates situations which are a part of the draw to this quaint yet cosmopolitan area nestled in the Blue Ridge of North Carolina. Artists using excellent composition and design, effective application of color and textures highlighting Connemara Visions will be recognized."

William Jameson will judge the event. Born in 1944 in Honea Path, SC, Jameson felt strong ties to his native region and credits growing-up surrounded by the natural beauty and rich history of South Carolina with inspiring his childhood ambitions of becoming an artist. After studying with Frank Rampola at the Ringling School of Art in Florida, Jameson taught painting on the college level and as a graduate assistant at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

Jameson not only continued his studies but taught landscape painting and life drawing as well. Since 1988, he has been teaching painting workshops in the southeastern United States, and in 1997 he expanded the workshop venues to Mexico, France and Italy. His "Art in Tuscany" workshop was featured in Industry Week Magazine in June of 1999. Jameson has been in various articles and reviews from 1970 to the present, including the most current, the Nov. 2007 cover of Carolina Arts. Today, he and his wife, Anne, also a painter, divide their time between homes and studios in Saluda, NC, and Mt. Pleasant, SC.
